Anatomy of An Interview

What's Up People?
I had an interview the other day, and yes, in a sense it went just like all the other interviews I've had, only this time I went to the interview armed with a college degree. So of course I liked my chances of landing this opportunity, things were going at a break neck pace. I emailed my resume Monday night/Tuesday morning, received a call from the recruiter Tuesday afternoon, sent in my follow-up questionnaire Tuesday evening, had a phone interview on Wednesday, and an in-person interview on Thursday, talk about things happening fast! Oh, and the on-site interview was set up for 7 a.m. (because it was the only time the company had available ((go figure???))).

So anyway, me being the gamer that I am, I accepted the offer for the opportunity to meet with them, and interview for the position. A position in which I was totally qualified for, that’s why things were happening so fast (they had to consider me to be a great match). I arrived at 6:55 a.m., proceeded to take a writing sample (subject matter: an irate customer, and how to deal with them.), after that I do a side-by-side (don the headphones and listen in on a call) with a rep. Then I proceed to have two interviews, each with two people, finish one, and then wait for the second set of interviewers and finish the second interview. Everything is going fine from my perspective, yeah, the second interview wasn’t that great, but I answered the questions. Oh, did I mention I was given one day to study up on the financial/technical questions that the second interview was to consist of (which, when confirming the 7 a.m. interview was told that most people get at least five to seven days to prepare for)? No sweat, I appreciate a challenge.

You probably guessed by now, I didn’t get the job (or else I wouldn’t be writing this note) but that’s OK, I haven’t got every job I interviewed for anyway. Only this time I know I was qualified for the job. Oh, the reason given was “we do not have an appropriate position for you at this time.” Well at least it wasn’t we found a better fit, or someone more qualified, it was we don’t have an “appropriate position.” What???

That is why people we have to create our own opportunities, and not rely on someone, or some company “giving us” a job/opportunity. In the end you cannot force a company to do so, which is why as a college educated person, I know the value of “doing for self.”

Have High Gas Prices Affected Relationships?

Are people who ride the bus now more sought after? In other words is the guy/gal at the bus stop now in vogue. You know the guy/gal with the SUV who you happen see waiting for the bus as you drive to work/school. You may even ask “Hey, where’s your Lincoln Navigator?” You think he is going to give you some lame reason is now riding the bus, like “It’s in the shop.” But no, he replies “At the house.” Of course you seemed puzzled, thinking to yourself “why is he riding the bus when he has a brand new Lincoln Navigator?” I’ll tell you why, he is saving money on gas!!! So now guess what, he/she now has more money to spend on thins like food, or even the occasional movie. See these people are making smart financial decisions by leaving that SUV at home, because buying gas is a lot like buying diapers for babies, you just never know how much/how many you are going to need. Don’t forget with your new found savings to make your money work for you, and get out of the cycle of working for your money.
